Has your area left quarantine? My state is slowing coming out, but due to my own immune issues, I am still sitting here in the living room. If you are like me, you need a hair cut and long for the freedom to go to the garden store, thrift store, or wherever you like to shop. Are you feeling like an old onion left in the pantry too long? You deserve to feel beautiful and confident about yourself. Although you may not feel this way currently, be glad to know there are steps you can take to improve your mental and physical health.
The most beautiful make-up of a woman is passion. But cosmetics are easier to buy. – Yves Saint Laurent
You have a lot of power and control over what you do and don’t do daily, especially if you’re stuck at home. The actions you take can impact the way you look and feel. It’s necessary that you follow positive behaviors with your beauty and confidence goals so you can experience more self-love. It’s time to put commercialized beauty standards aside and focus on what’s going to help you look attractive and boost your confidence.

1. Reduce Stress
Too much stress can take a toll on your mind, body, and overall well-being. If you want to feel more beautiful and confident, then you must find healthy ways to reduce your stress such as deep breathing, yoga, meditation, staying hydrated, drinking a warm cup of tea, or scheduling me time. Check out Tips to Stress Less for more ideas. Anxiety and worry can cause skin breakouts, sleep loss, and lack of motivation to exercise or practice self-care. It can also impact your posture and your mood and attitude. Learn to let go and put routines in place that relieve some of the stress you’re feeling.

2. Smile More
Put a big smile on your face in the morning. When you interact with others start with a smile which can help you feel more beautiful and confident. A friend in college didn’t do full smiles. As soon as she went to work, she paid a lot of money to a dentist to give herself a beautiful smile. She immediately walked around with a huge grin. Yes, her teeth looked better, but she acted like a different person with so much confidence. If you’re embarrassed by your teeth and smile, then you may want to look into getting some dental work to address the issues. My sister wore huge braces through most of high school for her overbite correction, It was hard as an adolescent to have the braces, but she really appreciated the difference in her teeth in college and on her first job. Of course, now you don’t have to wear lots of metal for a good smile. Did you know smiling can have an emotional reaction in yourself? Smiling lights up your face and triggers happiness in your brain so you can give off a friendly and more welcoming vibe and look more beautiful. It can have a definite affect on how you feel too. Wake up, smile, and say, “I’m glad to be alive!”

3. Dress for Success
Another way to feel more beautiful and confident is to wear your clothes well. Dress for success, even when you don’t feel like it to help boost your mood and appearance. You’ll look a lot better when you choose the best options for your age and body type. Don’t be afraid to dress up every so often and wear a fancy outfit to help you light up the room. Clothes are a way to express yourself and can make you feel great about yourself when you know you look good.

4. Give Yourself A Pep Talk
Your self-talk can influence the way you feel about yourself and your looks. It’s in your best interest to keep your inner-talk positive and uplifting. You might want to keep a journal of all the features you do like about yourself and what makes you unique so you can review it when you’re feeling down. Be kind to yourself and remember all the compliments you’ve received from others over the years to help you feel beautiful and boost your confidence. You can also practice gratitude to help you maintain a positive mindset and outlook which will put a smile on your face. See Gratitude Journal for more ideas. Embrace the flaws you do have and focus on what you can change, and that’s in your control to feel more empowered and beautiful.

5. Break A Sweat
Use exercise to get an endorphin high and elevate your mood. You’re going to likely feel more beautiful and confident after a sweat session because of how rewarding physical activity can be. Put on some of your favorite music and let loose as you work on toning your body. Use exercise as a way to get more comfortable with your body and your shape. Focus on the fact that you can use your workouts to target problem areas and slowly transform your body to get it the way you want. Working out doesn’t have to be a chore. Make it fun and enjoyable by buying some cute workout clothes and mixing up your routine and activities. For fun, dance to all your favorite oldies.
Those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music. – Friedrich Nietzsche
6. Spend Time with Positive People
The people around you can also impact your image of yourself. Spend time with positive people so you can feel more beautiful and confident. Find people to hang around who will lift you up instead of put you down. You want to be with individuals who inspire you to reach your personal goals. Now is a good time to assess your current relationships with others and distance yourself from people who are negative and may even be bullying you. A toxic person in your life may be keeping you from feeling your best.
Our task must be to free ourselves… by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature and it’s beauty. – Albert Einstein
In conclusion, plan activities that reduce your stress, wake up glad to be alive, stay active, talk to yourself in positive ways, and wear clothes that make you feel good. Smile as it’s a new day. Seek happy people to include in your life. Last, embrace life.
