Gardening For The Non-Gardener

Many decades ago I became friends with a co-worker, Gloria.  I’ve seen her apartment in the early 1980’s. her first small home in North Miami, Florida, the larger home she and her husband bought, their move with their 2 sons to a great home with a pool, and now she is in her retirement home in Gainesville, Florida. In all of this time, Gloria was not a gardener; she always said she had a brown thumb. Yes, she tried houseplants and planting outside but then she gave up. She never bought plants again. Then she received a present from her husband, an electronic hydroponic, dirt-free indoor garden for Christmas in 2018.  It’s called the AeroGarden  by Miracle Grow. (This is not a sponsored post; I’m just sharing my friend’s experiences.)

Gloria loved that there are no weeds to pull. The garden tells her when nutrients are need. The kit came with seed pods for herbs.  She put the herb pods in the pod holes in January 2019, and only one pod did not grow. She was really thrilled with fresh basil, thyme and dill. The machine automatically turned the lights on and off to simulate the sun. It tells her when to add water. She was proud of her fresh herbs she used in the kitchen. I was really happy she had her first success.

Since she had success with the garden, she has continued to plant pods. This spring she planted one tomato pod and crossed her fingers.   That one pod grew quickly. She had considered planting 2 tomato pods but is really happy she didn’t.  The one plant is large.

This is her first crop of tomatoes.  She is so happy to eat something she grew. Gloria is now a gardener.

  1. These tomatoes look delicious! I don’t have any tomato seeds so a friend suggested I squeeze fresh ones out of a tomato and plant them. I’m intrigued to know whether they will grow!

  2. Congratulations go out to Gloria for now becoming a gardener. No matter how small or how large your garden is; if it produces; You are a gardener.
Never give up hope. Sometimes all we need is patience & faith and throw in a little prayer eery now & then.
Enjoy your day; stay safe & stay healthy

  3. It’s encouraging to see Gloria’s produce grown in the indoor garden gadget which in itself is attractive. Well done to Gloria!
