Beginning of March in Jenna’s Garden

Azaleas are in the Rhododendron family.  Most azaleas are hardy to planting zones 6-9, with a few varieties tolerating colder temperatures up to zone 4.   Plant azaleas in partial shade or in a spot with morning sun and afternoon shade.  Acidic Soil: Azaleas prefer soil with a pH of 5 to 6.5.

The end of February and beginning of March is when my friend Jenna’s garden is vibrant with the spring colors of azaleas here in central Florida.  Her home is situated on a large lot with a pond,  lots of shade trees, and azaleas she planted in the shade decades ago.  Thanks for sharing your photos Jenna!

Those of you who visit often may remember my post last year on Helping Monarch Butterflies.   Jenna and her husband move monarch chrysalis off milkweed plants to the screened pool area to protect them from predators. When the butterflies emerge, they are released in the garden. She has already found a chrysalis attached to the underside of a deck chair. Crossing my fingers that they have a beautiful summer of Monarchs this year.

I was raised in Tennessee but have lived in Florida for many years. Love my small home in the Tampa Bay area and its developing garden. My decorating style is eclectic - some vintage, some cottage, all with a modern flair. Pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Spent many years in social services but am happily retired.

  1. Your friend has a beautiful garden. It looks idyllic with the shady areas, azaleas and the pond. She and her husband are good to the butterflies by protecting them. It’ll be wonderful to see such beauties later in the year.

  2. Jenna is a good friend as well as a remarkable gardener. Thanks to her and to you for sharing her yard with us. … we grew azaleas in Oregon but I don’t ever see them over here in SW Florida. I think you have the best of both worlds!

    1. You have to come a little further north to central Florida to see azaleas. You are in the tropical zone 10 and azaleas need a little cold to bloom.

  3. Hello, what a beautiful garden. The azaleas are lovely. It is nice to see all the colors, it still looks like winter here.
Stay safe and healthy, calm and happy. Enjoy your day, have a great new week!

  4. Such beautiful flowers! I was in Baton Rough last week and the amaryllis, azaleas, and camellias were in bloom. Was still pretty chilly but beautiful! Thank you for sharing and have a Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

  5. Carol – Jenna’s garden has a very natural look to it, which I admire greatly. The bird houses peeking out from the rich foliage are a delight! Fabulous photos, and how it makes me look forward to spring! Thanks for taking the time to link to Mosaic Monday. I am praying that our daily and weekly routines will help us stay sane during these difficult times.

  6. Your friend has beautiful gardens! The azaleas remind me of growing up in the south where they are so plentiful. Here via Wonderful Wednesday.

  7. Looking at all the comments you received, Jenna’s garden is loved. Have to say, it’s the most romantic garden I have seen in a long time. Rhododendrons can really spread out. We once rented a house that had a Rododendron that was over six foot, probably around 7 feet tall. Many thanks for taking the time to visit her and to take these wonderful captures for All Seasons! Have a fantastic week!

  8. Spring has sprung! Thank you so much for sharing. I love the pictures, but I hate the bugs. I knew it was Spring yesterday when I got bit by a bug. Total bummer. I swear I think they hunt me down!!!! Have a great weekend and thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures.
