Old Floral Swag Makeover

Last November I found an old eucalyptus floral swag at the thrift store. The ribbon was stained and the real eucalyptus was dried out and disintegrating.  The painted wooden house background for the eucalyptus and flowers was a coastal cottage complete with palm trees. It was perfect for my Florida home and I thought I could remake it.  At the time, I was completing a long list to prepare for my family’s Christmas visit and put the swag away.

I recently took the swag apart.  There was so much metal wire wrapped around everything, and I had to cut it out. I discarded the filthy ribbon and disintegrating eucalyptus.

I love the look of eucalyptus but I wanted a faux one to last longer. I found one at 50% off at Hobby Lobby. The faux flowers from the original swag was in excellent condition and I could re-use them.  I wired the eucalyptus and flowers in the middle.

I had ribbon in my craft stash. I wrapped the ribbon around the faux eucalyptus and wired it to the wooden cottage.

I added a metal pull ring from a soda can to the back of the wooden scene.  Originally a plastic tie was used to hang the swag. I wanted something sturdier and it was free.

I hung it on the wall to the right of the living room futon above the bookcase. Then I made slight adjustments to the ribbon and flowers.  I also changed the flowers in the planter of green plants for white and bright faux flowers.

It looks great on the wall and adds a pop to room.

For the original swag and the faux eucalyptus I spent about $6 in total to make my new Floral Eucalyptus Swag with a Coastal Cottage.
