Last summer I tried making an umbrella wreath with flowers. It was easy and fun.
Later I was wandering in my favorite thrift store and found a worn Betty Boop umbrella with red hearts, her image in black, white, and red, and the name BETTY BOOP on the umbrella material. I instantly thought of Valentine’s Day with all the red hearts. I bought the umbrella and put it away.
Just as I planned last summer, I am making a winter umbrella wreath for the front door using the thrift store umbrella and a mix of red roses from Dollar Tree and Walmart. Remember I live in Florida and the high temperature today is 78 degrees F. If we get a windy rain storm, then I’ll remove it. If you have an umbrella with an old fashioned hook on the end, it’s easy to hang and remove.
First I started making a bouquet of red roses from my collection of faux flowers. I loosely tied my bouquet with jute cord. Because it wasn’t full enough, I picked up a few more at Walmart. I added them to the bouquet.
I tried putting the flowers in the umbrella while it was on a flat surface, but that doesn’t work well. Hang the umbrella on a hook, insert flowers and adjust as needed. I arranged mine hanging on the front door. Last summer my umbrella was at an angle but this time I was trying to do it more straight on the hook.
I had a Dollar Tree red burlap ribbon which I tied around the umbrella. I added curled small Valentine ribbons to the burlap in the center. It really looks great now.
Simple and oh so easy to make – another umbrella wreath decoration!
