Each year I make a vignette of candles and decor for the 4 Sundays leading up to Christmas. Each Sunday I light candles and say a prayer as I prepare for Christmas Day. Today’s display is built around a votive candle holder shaped like a tree that I found at the thrift store last February. I got it for little $ and put it away for November.
I am using the side table in the corner of the living room again for my display. This year I decided to use LED candles and just let them burn without worry. I added a gold ribbon to the top of the stand and a flower at the base. On the left side is a golden angel I found at the thrift store a couple of years ago. On the right side is a deer. The table is completed with several pine cones and candles in brass holders. Even though this candle holder was not made for Advent I can adapt it.
First Sunday I used the bottom right candle.
Next Sunday the bottom 2 candles will be used.
The 3rd Sunday I will light both the bottom 2 candles and the middle row of 2 candles.
The 4th Sunday all the candles in the holder will be lit. I will use the white candles in the brass holders on Christmas Day.
On the wall I switched my art again. This art in black and gold was done by my friend Mary using scratch board. ( Scratch board is a paper (or foil) board that is covered with wax or gesso and coated over with black ink. You scratch a design to reveal the color beneath like the metallic gold. She is quiet adept and enjoys this medium for religious subjects. Her lion and lamb in this medium is stunning.) The gold metallic surface reflects and refracts and is hard to photograph. I apologize.

What a lovely idea! My church has an advent wreath, but I had never thought of setting up advent candles in my home. That’s a wonderful plan!
It’s very easy to do – you just need 4 candles really. You can use several different candle holders as they don’t have to match. Surround with a few decorations, ornaments, or pine cones and there you are!
