Orchid Time

It’s time to share more of my friend’s beautiful orchids which are now blooming.   I’ve shared her lovely flowers in the past. See that post for information on growing tropical orchids. Not that I am any good at it.  I’ve killed every orchid I’ve gotten, but my friend just has beautiful blooms. Some of them are in the house.

My friend lives further south here in Florida. Most of her orchids are outside. She has some on the screened lanai, some hang from trees, and others hang in baskets under the eaves.

Each type of orchid has specific light and water requirements. I’ve been told by master gardeners that I probably watered my orchids too much.  Most don’t like that.

  1. Such beautiful orchids.
I do not have a green thumb when it comes to house plants. Sad when a person can’t keep a faux succulent alive.
That’s just how bad I am with house plants. Now, when it comes to out door plants, no problem there.
    Have an enjoyable week end.

  2. Carol – your friend certainly has a green thumb! Orchids are amazing plants – and so many varieties I never get tired of looking at them! Thanks for adding their unique beauty to Mosaic Monday this week!

  3. Hello, the orchids are beautiful. Lovely variety of colors! Enjoy your day, wishing you a happy new week.

  4. Your friend’s orchids are gorgeous. I might have better luck with orchids if they could grow outside on their own. It has been a couple of years since the last of Mama’s orchids hit the dust. Maybe it’s time to try again.

  5. She has a wonderful green thumb! There are a couple ladies in our Florida resort who grow them in their trees like you talk about. I’ve taken lots of pictures. (Will be there soon, so I can check on them in person)!

  6. My late aunt used to grow the most beautiful orchids. She had an amazing green thumb. Sadly, the orchids died with her – all of us are orchid murderers!

    Happy Tuesday, Carol!

  7. Thank you for sharing these beautiful orchid photos with us, Carol. I, like you, usually kill all the orchids friends have given me over the years. I have one remaining, but it has never flowered again. Maybe I will cut back on the amount of water I give it.

    1. Do research on orchids that can grow in your growing zone if you want them outside. If you are doing a houseplant, learn about the needs of various kinds and choose one you can meet its light requirement. Most need filtered light – think by a window with sheers. Most don’t handle direct light or shade. Again totally depends on type of orchid. Water as required for variety and fertilize when you water. This is the info I found when I did research. I think I didn’t meet light requirements and I overwatered. Hence my orchids always bite the dust!

  8. I love orchids! You always have such nice photos to share on Instagram. Thanks for linking on Amanda’s Books and More and for including a link on your Link Parties page.

    1. I must say you have a gift. I tend to make orchids die as much as I love them. But I do love seeing my friend’s beautiful flowers. Like you, she says it’s easy.
