Halloween Spider Eggs

Today’s treat is another fun food art for your Halloween gatherings – Deviled eggs decorated with black olive spiders.  Like last Monday’s recipe for Monster Eyes, use your favorite deviled egg recipe or mine.  If you want a gross monster look, add a few drops of green food coloring to the egg yolk filling. I’m not crazy about food coloring, and I stayed with the traditional yellow filling. I think it’s still fun. Cut your eggs in half lengthwise and fill with your deviled egg mixture.

Place 1 olive half, cut side down, in the center of each deviled egg to create the body of the spider. Add 4 small olive slices on each side of the body to make its legs. Cute and oh so easy!  Serve on a black tray or place each spider egg in your favorite Halloween cupcake liner.  Each person can hold the spider egg in the paper wrapper.

  1. I think I prefer olive spiders to the real things 🙂 These look seriously fun and so authentic, what a great idea for a Halloween supper.

  2. These are great! Black is so hard to achieve with food colouring. I made a pirate ship birthday cake for one of my boys years ago. I remember I used so much colouring to achieve black rather than grey that all the kids mouths were smeared in black!

  3. Good morning Carol, I can’t believe almost that creepy time of year again! Your spider eggs would look good on any Halloween table and are probably the only type of spider I’d be happy to see… Jelly sweet spiders I can do too!

    1. You’re welcome! My family loves deviled eggs and we have them for almost all holiday parties. I just try to make them seasonal.

  4. WOW, those do look like spiders!! Thanks so much for linking up at the #UnlimitedMonthlyLinkParty 5. Shared.

  5. These are so fun. I tried to make spiders with olives once and it didn’t quite work as well as yours! Thanks for sharing at the What’s for Dinner party! Have a fabulous week!!
