It’s the beginning of February and I still have lots of blooming houseplants. The poinsettia from Christmas is very happy on the floor in front of the sliding glass doors in the dining room. It still has green leaves turning red and gets plenty of afternoon light.
The anthurium in the living room has about 7 or 8 “flowers” on it and is looking great. It gets morning light.
Last week I re-potted the little evergreen I got at Christmas and it is now happy on the porch.
The cyclamen has less flowers than 2 weeks ago but is happy in the corner of the dining room. I moved it from the table when I bought flowers for a bouquet. On the wall is a heart and my little coastal wall decor. When I put Christmas away, I immediately put it back up. It has my Florida colors.
A little begonia plant is blooming steadily.

Today the cyclamen is starting to lose leaves. Not many days left of its beauty before it goes dormant. I’m wondering if it would survive in the ground in my yard. May give it a try.

I haven’t ever seen brownish-red anthurium before. It’s almost like rust, the color. I like it. If we had more windows, I’d go crazy with houseplants, too. 🙂

Yes they do indeed. It took some months for me to find the right place for light and to learn the water requirements. At first it didn’t look good at all. I talked with my friend who grows them and she gave me great advice. If all else fails, feed them she said. I didn’t have to once I moved the plant for more light. Flowers came!

They look happy and healthy! They wouldn’t be if I was around. I can kill any plant!
I can grow most plants, but me and Poinsettias do not get on at all. I only have to look at them and they curl up and die!
On the other hand, my little white cyclamen that is outdoors amongst the cat graves is still flowering merrily away in spite of all the very low temperatures, frost and rain.

I seem to kill every living thing (except the cat) I take care of but some great choices. The anthurium is different with those waxy leaves, I really like it, that dash of yellow among the complimentary colors. I’m going to have to read your post on it.
It is different and I really like the red “flowers” which last a really long time.

Carol – your post made me consider why my anthurium might have stopped blooming. I think it’s the low light at this time of year. I have changed its location and we will see how it does. Enjoy your weekend!
When I first got mine, it stopped having flowers within a month – it was in the wrong place. Good luck!
