Holiday season means great food, and what is better than easy homemade cranberry sauce. Today’s recipe is simple and based on cranberries, oranges, and dried cherries. Don’t have an orange but you have a tangerine? That would work as well. My recipe is sugar-free with a wonderful sweetness based on applesauce and orange juice, My sister can’t eat cinnamon and my family often comes up ways to add taste without cinnamon. Love cinnamon like me? Drop in a cinnamon stick; be sure to remove it after cooking. This is one of those dishes you can make 3 or 4 days before your dinner and stick in the back of the refrigerator until it’s needed. Personally I like eating fresh cranberries as much as possible when they’re in season.
This simple sauce is packed full of anti-inflammatory foods like oranges, cranberries and cherries. Cherries are little powerhouses fighting inflammation. Most diseases like arthritis and heart disease are inflammatory conditions. We all know how healthy citrus fruit is plus I love the taste of fresh oranges. The nutrients in cranberries have been linked to a lower risk of urinary tract infections, prevention of certain types of cancer, improved immune function, and decreased blood pressure. And the best part, a half a cup of cranberries contains only 25 calories. You can use this sauce with all kinds of meats and chicken besides a holiday turkey.

I do love cinnamon and use it whenever I can. I go through a lot of cinnamon sticks in the winter which reminds me, time to heat up some cider from Ski Hi and hope I have a stick left. My sister makes a cranberry dish like this and I love it.
Cinnamon is one of my go-tos for cooking. Love it!
