The wood stork is a large American wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae. It was formerly called the “wood ibis”, though it is not an ibis. It is found in subtropical and tropical habitats in the Americas, including the Caribbean.
It’s still warm and beautiful here in Florida. Over by my friend’s house on the lake, lots of birds come to visit. Today’s photos are of a couple of wood storks in her yard.
We all kept away and let them graze and look around. Amazing.

They certainly are amazing! I’m also jealous that you’ve still got warm weather.
The truth is that is the reason I moved to Florida decades ago. I really don’t like cold weather.
Hi Carol, I’m glad to see that you didn’t suffer too much damage in the recent storms. Your garden birds are so much more interesting than ours. Saying that the dogs would soon chase storks off into the sunset!

xx
I doubt the storks would land with dogs around. My garden has no stork visits but I don’t live on the water. Sigh.
What fascinating birds. They have certainly integrated with the neighbourhood #mysundayphoto
Flipping heck they look huge
Thank you for linking up to #MySundayPhoto
they are large!
Wow he is something,lovely captures X #mysundayphoto
Wow! They are amazing! Not something you would see here. They look massive. Eek x
No need to fear – they were just curious, looked around, and left. They’re too afraid to get close to people which is a good thing.
How amazing. I think I might freak out if something that big landed in our garden!
It hadn’t happened before at my friend’s place – they ususally stay more in the wild. That’s why we were excited. You just stay a good distance and see something very unique. Then they’re gone in a blink of an eye.
what amazing birds.
They look friendly.
Happy weekend
There was nothing aggessive in their behavior. They looked around and said let’s get out of here. Too many people.
We have lots of wood storks on our lakes too and pelicans, among others! Always fun to see. Happy Sunday!
Happy Sunday!
Quite imposing birds. How fascinating to get close enough to take their photos. #MySundayPhoto
What a treat to have storks parking in one’s yard! Have only seen them from far:) Lovely you shared it for All Seasons with us, Carol! yes, here it is still nice weather too:)
Funny looking birds but great to be able to see them stroll about the garden. They look very inquisitive.

Amazing birds!
Brilliant captures, they are so tall and very elegant looking heheh!
Have a storktastic week 🙂
The one perched on the porch railing is HUGE! I think it’s wonderful this type of bird just likes to wander around the neighborhood!
How interesting! Intriguing birds
I would be glued to the window watching these large birds.

Wood Storks on my front lawn! I could only dream of such a magical experience.
Haven’t seen this variety on our trips to Florida, but this past visit our resort was full of wild life. And it was warm!
Wow! They are really big. I’d like to see one of those one day.
What great visitors! Definitely something you don’t see every day.
Those are amazing looking birds! What a treat to see them up close like you did!
Those wood storks are so large! What amazing birds to see walking around the neighborhood.
That wood stork looks like a kid wearing a Halloween mask. I’ve never seen a wood stork before now.
We are learning about birds today at my Master Naturalist class. I shall have to report that I saw a wood stork today. Well, I did.
Yes you did! The same way I’ve seen the UK, Europe, Asia, New Zealand, etc.
WOW I think they are cool! We don’t have any here in Nebraska, but I want to see some. All we have is turkey and pheasants.
Turkey and pheasants are nice too. Next time you’re in Florida look for storks
What a BEAUTIFUL old Florida neighborhood!! It reminds me of the street I grew up. Of course, it is almost completely taken over by McMansions now.
Thanks for sharing your lovely area!
