St. Petersburg, Florida is a beautiful coastal city on the west coast of Florida. Known for its sunny weather and Gulf beaches, St. Pete’s nickname is Sunshine City. It is also popular for golfing, boating, fishing and beachgoing. Its waterfront parks host the Dali Museum, featuring surrealist works of art; the Museum of Fine Arts, with works ranging from ancient to contemporary; and Mahaffey Theater, home of the Florida Orchestra. Today we’ll make a visit to a lesser known but fascinating museum with an unexpected western frontier flavor.

The James Museum has its roots in the deeply felt passion for art and culture shared by co-founders Tom and Mary James, and in the couple’s love for St. Petersburg, the city where they live. . .These two dedicated patrons of the arts collected works in oil, in ink, in stone; works that define genres yet defy labels; works that evoke the spirit of a wide open frontier and the beauty of life in the wild. . . In building this splendid home for a part of their vast personal collection of Western and wildlife art, Tom and Mary also have succeeded in their aim to share their vision and devotion to art with you and thousands of others.

Carol

I was raised in Tennessee but have lived in Florida for many years. Love my small home in the Tampa Bay area and its developing garden. My decorating style is eclectic - some vintage, some cottage, all with a modern flair. Pursuing a healthier lifestyle. Spent many years in social services but am happily retired.

    1. If you are ever in the Tampa Bay area, send me a note and I’d love to meet you at the museum.

  1. What a a great museum that is. I am partial to western art and it looks like they have many excellent objects there. I love the squash blossom necklace especially. I had never seen one so colorful.

  2. What amazing pieces of art you have shared today, Carol! I think I could have spent all day there. Each time I would look at a picture I’d think it was my favorite…until I saw the next piece. They are all magnificient.

    1. I know – I kept thinking I should limit the number of photos but then couldn’t not share so many beauties!

  3. What an interesting museum Carol. I really enjoyed your tour and enjoying the art of the American West.
St. Petersburg looks like a beautiful place and those palms! Wow!

Thanks so much for sharing with #MMBC. 🙂

  4. Oh, wow, wow, wow! I loved each and every one of your fotos…but I’ve gotta say, that necklace is absolutely gorgeous! I’m kinda a fan of jewelry! Thanks so much for sharing…it’s like getting a personal tour guide! Happy SONday, sweet Lady!

  5. I had not idea this museum existed. St. Pete seems to be a very artsy city. If I am correct, the Dali museum is also there. I need to do a road trip around Florida.
