The James Museum
St. Petersburg, Florida is a beautiful coastal city on the west coast of Florida. Known for its sunny weather and Gulf beaches, St. Pete’s nickname is Sunshine City. It is also popular for golfing, boating, fishing and beachgoing. Its waterfront parks host the Dali Museum, featuring surrealist works of art; the Museum of Fine Arts, with works ranging from ancient to contemporary; and Mahaffey Theater, home of the Florida Orchestra. Today we’ll make a visit to a lesser known but fascinating museum with an unexpected western frontier flavor.
Admission is $20 a day for adults, $15 for Students/Military/Seniors, youth 7 to 18 $10, and children under 7 are free. Family days at the museum: Bring the kids every second Saturday for fun with a Western and wildlife twist! Enjoy different themed activities each month, including story time in the galleries, a kid-friendly guided tour, a make & take art project, and a chance to explore the museum with a family activity guide.
Whether you like silver jewelry, sculptures, or paintings, this museum has something for everyone including the kids.
Remember playing cowboys and Indians?
Now let’s just enjoy the art.
Next time you’re on the west coast of Florida, take time for a western oasis not far from the beach. Visit the James Museum and savor the art.
Florida is a beautiful place to wander.

What amazing pieces of art you have shared today, Carol! I think I could have spent all day there. Each time I would look at a picture I’d think it was my favorite…until I saw the next piece. They are all magnificient.
I know – I kept thinking I should limit the number of photos but then couldn’t not share so many beauties!
Western themed art can be quite compelling and I can see why one would find this museum a real draw. Thanks for taking us there. Much to love and savor.
Thanks Jeanie!

I had not idea this museum existed. St. Pete seems to be a very artsy city. If I am correct, the Dali museum is also there. I need to do a road trip around Florida.
The Dali Museum is also in Downtown St Pete – another gorgeous museum.
