Tarragon Flowers Table

The other day at the small farmer’s market, Tasty Tuesday, I saw a first for me. My favorite grower, Cindy, sells little bunches of fresh (grown-without-chemicals) herbs for 50 cents each.  She had an herb covered in bright gold yellow flowers. She said it was fresh tarragon. I’d never seen tarragon flowers before.  (For those of you in northern climates, winter is a great time to grow “cool” weather crops here in Florida. The summer burns lots of things up.)

I bought all 3 little bunches along with eggplant. I knew I was not only going to cook with the herb but more importantly, I would enjoy the little blooms while they lasted.  As a child, I loved little weedy flowers that pushed up in the grass.  When spring made everything so alive, I wanted to run outside. After school, I’d skip Girls Scouts or choir practice and walk and walk and walk. I couldn’t wait to see the little flowers. I’d pick a handful and take them to my mother. She would have liked these tarragon blooms.

I found the leftover vase from last spring’s hyacinth bulb and filled it with water. I arranged the tarragon. I cut 3 lengths of jute and wrapped all three together around the little vase. I tied a knot

I put the vase on a fall leaf salad plate. I layered a black plate underneath. The plates are on lace with the fall leaf faux place mat I made earlier.

With candlesticks and rustic pumpkins and pine cones, my November centerpiece is perfect.

I hope you enjoyed my simple bouquet. Thanks for the visit.

  1. Great centerpiece, Carol! My, how could you miss choir practice?? (joking) Actually, I used to love roaming around the country side till I was about 10, but there was nothing to miss for little girls, since the village was so small.
Great solution for Thanksgiving Carol, to get together with a friend, and yay – no dishes:):) Happy Thanksgiving to you:)

  2. I didn’t know about tarragon flowers neither. It is a good idea to enjoy the flowers before using the herb. I need to buy more fresh herbs.
