My home is my haven and reflects who I am. Home decor to me is not just what is fashionable or in style; I love to surround myself with things that speak of home, family, and faith. My style is eclectic as I find beauty in many styles. I love vintage and browse thrift store, flea markets and yard sales looking for treasures. I have several side tables that originally belonged to my maternal grandmother. I have quilts made for me by sister-in-law, paintings and drawings by my father, and a painting by a close friend in Ft. Lauderdale.
The colors in the painting remind me of the sea and Florida, and the design of the floral still-life also speaks of an Asian element which I love. At the time, I owned a larger home in Sunrise, Florida in Broward County. For some years, I had been trying to find something to put on one large blank wall. This painting totally changed that room.
When I purchased my current cozy home, I knew this picture would dominate the living room. I placed it over my futon which I decided to use as my couch. Living in Florida, a queen size futon is a God-send when all your family and friends up north come to visit. Originally when I purchased the futon, I had placed the futon in a second bedroom in my old home. I bought a hot red cover with Asian elements and decorated the bedroom around that. For my new home here outside of Tampa, I went with a lighter natural sailcloth look for several years with brown and aqua cushions. Recently I updated that look with an off-white cover and coastal pillow covers.
I do love pillow covers and now have others to change the look of the room with a simple change of pillow covers. There are also futon covers available in many shades and patterns, and many can now be washed and dried.
Spring is a perfect time for the coastal flavor. I am loving my lightened room and looking forward to other looks as the seasons change.

What a gorgeous piece of art, Carol, and yes, it looks just beautiful as a focal point over your futon. Your pillows add a perfect touch to your coastal home.
